The inclusion of music therapy in health professions
The inclusion of music therapy in health professions will help:
- its progressive integration into public health and special education settings, making it accessible to those in need,
- to protect the public as it will demand formal qualifications for its practice,
- the establishment of music therapy as an autonomous scientific specialty distinct from music pedagogy and music in special education.
Music therapy is an internationally established and evidence-based health profession in which music is used in the context of a therapeutic relationship with goals related to the physical, psycho-emotional, cognitive and social needs of individuals.
It includes the clinical and evidence based use of musical interventions to achieve individual or group goals by a qualified therapist who has completed an approved university academic program.
