A Tribute to Mikis Theodorakis
Spectacular Concert: A Tribute to Mikis Theodorakis. 24th June, Kallimarmaro Stadium.
A concert of great importance took place at the Kallimarmaro-Panathinaikos Stadium on Monday, June 24, at 9pm.
A tribute to composer Mikis Theodorakis, the “Mikis Theodorakis Orchestra” performed with twenty-five excellent artists. Other famous singers were the great surprise of this magnificent evening, as they performed Theodorakis most beloved songs: Songs of resistance, of controversy, of protestation.
The concert took its symbolic title from a song by Theodorakis written during the dark days of the military dictatorship: “You are Greek: You will become yourself again.”
Composers and singers, Greeks and foreigners, representatives of the Greek diaspora in America, Canada, Australia and Europe, Olympic medal winners and athletes honored Mikis Theodorakis. Relatives of the fighters of the resistance, of Grigoris Lambrakis, of Alexandros Panagoulis, of George Moustakis, of Mandilaras, people who sacrificed their lives and careers fighting against the Colonels’ Junta, were there to listen to the songs that are symbolic of the struggle against the seven-year tyranny.
A portion of the profits from the concert was donated to the organization ELPIDA, Committee of the Friends of Children with Cancer.
